What should beauty and well-being really cost?

Beauty regimes, routine care, or just your me-time - do it mindfully..

We all love the occasional (and for some, the regular) times during our busy work schedules where we can just concentrate on us. Each person has their own way of doing this. Some prefer to tuck in with a good book, others with a hot drink and their throw, and some love to spend it on their beauty regimen and grooming for the upcoming back-to-business schedules.

From booking time at a massage spa or just having your me time in your own home, it is hard to find a woman who has not done this or has not longed for this.

However, do we ever stop to think if we are doing them in the most beneficial way for us? If you do your regular deep cleansing, moisturising, toning regimen, do you look at the products and more importantly, the ingredients? Are they really the best for your skin? We take so much care in what we put into our bodies in the form of food. But do we really pay that much attention to what we put on it? How are those ingredients sourced? Are they even natural? Or are they concocted in a lab? Why would we make something unnatural and then slather that all over ourselves? Our skin, our hair, our bodies have not yet evolved so drastically that we need to seek out man made ingredients.

Why is it so important?

The world we live in has seen numerous cycles of evolution. We are but a very recent part of it. But we have progressed at such a pace that is unsettling. We are subjecting our bodies and minds to such a high degree of change in such a short span of time. It is time we took a few steps back. What exactly does that mean?

Try and disconnect with the so called "progressive" world and try and re-connect with nature. In any way you can. Let's try this (as I find it the most useful way): change your diet for 1 week. Not long, just 1 week. Eat food that has the lowest degree of processing. Things like fruits and vegetables. Things that you can grow yourself and can cook over a flame. No oil, no grains either. Wait, does that sound really difficult? Ok, let's cut it down to 5 days then. Still tough? Fine, 3 days. Just do 1 day if you can! And just see how your body feels.

If changing the diet is a no-deal for you, try the beauty products that you use (read the labels, buy from ethical producers), the clothes that you wear (try minimalism), the transportation that you take (try the bicycle or walk).

What about cost?

There is another angle to this as well and that is the cost to you. We can of course consider the £ cost and the impact on your bank account. Surely you would have had that one day where you would have tried to manage your expenditure and change some of your routines to enable that desired "savings". And this "step-back" that I am talking about is a great way to contribute to that goal. But I am talking about the real cost. Real cost? Money is not real? I say, it's as real as you want it to be. Sure, money can buy a lot of things that are necessary for one to live in this world. And it's wonderful to have an abundance of it. But in this context, I would like to argue that the real cost of this "disconnected" way of living is to your mind, your body and to your state of being. Your source of energy is cut off. You are not the full potential that you can be. And oh, you can be so much!

Are we going a little deeper?

I'm afraid so. There is so much that's possible and that's just waiting to be tapped into by us human beings. We are the only species on the planet who respond to things rather than react to them. That is why we are called a human BEING. What our minds and bodies are capable of is miraculous. If we could only get that connection to nature back. I call it nature, you might call it God or source or universe. We are all capable of being, having and creating anything that we want. We just need to take that one small step today.

I've given you a few ideas to try out. Start small but start now. Keep reading my articles and join me on this journey of exploration. I will write down my experiences and I would love to hear yours. Until the next one!

I'd have to say that is some "food for thought"! An interesting perspective and I'm looking forward to reading the upcoming pieces!
